A Secure Children’s Home had previously been using a Perimeter Intruder Detection System (PIDS) provided by another manufacturer but due to poor system performance the decision was taken to replace the system with an alternative.

Our solution

Following discussion with the client, it was decided to install Harper Chalice’s FenceSecure fence mounted PIDS.

FenceSecure PIDS is approved by the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) for use on Governmental sites including UK Prisons and other secure facilities and has previously been approved by the National Offenders Management Service (NOMS). As such, the FenceSecure system was fully accredited for use at this site and was duly selected.

The system has a proven history of the highest performance, not only maximising detection through independent trials but also setting the bar in terms or low false alarm rates.

The FenceSecure System was fully integrated directly into the existing Cortech security management system which offers complete operation and control of the PIDS along with the other security systems installed on site such as CCTV and access control.

Challenges

The installation requirements were a particular challenge as the site was fully operational. Work had to be arranged around the operations of the high security environment.

The fence mounted equipment was fitted to a 5m high perimeter fence. The fence line was due to undergoing a series of alterations and the flexibility of the FenceSecure system enabled these changes to occur without issue.

Finally, the system was required to achieve the highest possible levels of detection, while minimising false alarms.
